Det alminnelige medisinske forskningsfond

Utdelingsbeløp 2019: 375.000,-

Fondets formål er å fremme medisinsk forskning ved Universitetet i Bergen.

Kriterier for utdeling:
Det er ønskelig at midlene fortrinnsvis går til søkere som har liten tilgang til forskningsmidler per dags dato. Komiteen velger derfor å:

  • prioritere postdoktorer
  • prioritere fast vitenskapelige ansatte som er i en etableringsfase, enten fordi de er tidlig i sin karriere eller fordi de er nye ved fakultetet, med prosjektstøtte
  • prioritere reisestøtte til stipendiater og studenter
  • prioritere prosjektstøtte til rekrutteringsstillinger og forskere dersom det er midler igjen og de andre prioriteringsbetingelsene er oppfylt
  • ikke prioritere etablerte forskere som leder større prosjekter og/eller forskningsgrupper eller på andre måter disponerer mye forskningsmidler
  • ikke prioritere driftsmidler til stipendiater og studenter, da disse har tilgang til driftsmidler gjennom sine forskningsgrupper

Legat for forskning av kreftsykdommer

Utdelingsbeløp 2019: 305.000,-

Legatets formål er å fremme forskning av kreftsykdommer. En mindre del, om lag fem prosent av de disponible midlene, skal gå til forskning om hjerte- og karsykdommer.

Kriterier for utdeling: De samme som beskrevet over (Det alminnelige medisinske forskningsfond)

Dagfinn Aarskogs vitenskapelige fond til Barneklinikken, Haukeland sykehus

Utdelingsbeløp 2019: 62.000,-

Fondets formål er å stimulere pediatrisk forskning på et internasjonal nivå ved Barneklinikken, og i norsk pediatri, ved å bidra til at yngre pediatere og forskere under utdanning kan komme i kontakt med og eventuelt etablere forskningssamarbeid med internasjonale pediatriske forskere og forskningsmiljøer.

Kriterier for utdeling:

  • yte bidrag til at leger i utdanningsstilling i pediatri eller under forskerutdanning ved Barne- og ungdomsklinikken skal få mulighet til å delta i internasjonale vitenskapelige konferanser, kongresser, møter eller seminarer
  • søkere som skal legge frem egne forskningsresultater skal ha fortrinn
  • det kan også ytes bidrag til yngre overleger under 45 år dersom de skal presentere egne forskningsresultater
  • forskningsstipendiater med annen grunnutdanning enn medisin (f.eks. cand.san., cand.scient. eller cand.psychol.) kan også søke om bidrag og skal vurderes likt dersom deres forskningsprosjekt har en klar pediatrisk profil og tilknytning til Barneklinikken, slik at eventuelle vitenskapelige publikasjoner helt eller delvis vil utgå fra Barne- og ungdomsklinikken

Open Access – Plan S

Research Council of Norway together with ten other research councils*, the European commission and the European Research Council (ERC) presented an initiative for full and immediate open access to research publications they fund as of 2020. The initiative is called Plan S and the potential consequences for career and research quality have sparked a fierce debate among researchers.

Everyone agrees that open access publication is good, but how to implement it have initiated headed discussions. Plan S means that Norwegian researchers with funding from the EU and Norwegian Research council will be barred from publishing their work in journals like Nature and Science from 1 January 2020. Novel laureate Edvard Moses says that the plan will have catastrophic consequences for Norwegian science and researchers, while others are more positive. One problem is that large and active research nations such as USA, Germany and China have chosen not to be part of the plan.

The Chief Executive Officer of Research Council of Norway, John-Arne Røttingen, will visit UiB to present the initiative and participate in a debate with UiB’s researchers.

Everybody is welcome and there will be plenty of time for discussion and input from the attendants.

(Norwegian) Læringsfestivalen 2019

Gjennom erfarings- og kunnskapsdeling rundt studentaktive læringsformer vil vi utvikle undervisning og utdanning.

Læringsfestivalen skal inspirere, motivere og vise gode, nye og spennende tilnærminger til undervisning og læring i universitets- og høyskolesektoren.

Læringsfestivalen er en møteplass der undervisere og engasjerte i undervisning møtes og utveksler kunnskap, erfaringer, ideer, visjoner og problemstillinger, og hvor man kan knytte kontakter og etablere nettverk for videre samarbeid. Vi inviterer spesielt til et spor der forskningsresultater rundt studentaktive læringsformer presenteres.

Vi inviterer til å bidra med presentasjon, poster eller rundebordsdiskusjon. Vi tar imot abstracts med ønske om format til og med 14. desember 2018.

We are pleased to invite to the Nordic PhD course MBI-8008: “Molecular and Clinical Aspects of Cancer”. The course will take place at the University of Tromsø in weeks 11 and 12 of next year (March 11th to March 22nd, 2019). An international faculty teaches the course. Please find the lecture here.

There is no course fee and for the cost of 5.000 NOK each external PhD student will be offered housing at an Apartment Hotel in the centre of Tromsø.

Welcome to a special and extended CCBIO Junior Scientist Symposium at Panorama Hotel & Resort at Sotra, just outside Bergen. This time we will host a lunch-to-lunch symposium from Monday 19th– Tuesday 20th of November. The CCBIO Junior Scientist Symposium is a forum to practice presenting projects, engaging in scientific discussions and interact with like-minded peers. In addition, to enjoy excellent and interesting scientific presentations.

The symposium will start with a delicious lunch, before proceeding with an excellent academic and scientific program, including an inspirational lecture by the experienced scientist, professor and vice dean of doctoral education at our faculty, Roland Jonsson.  We will focus on how to improve scientific presentation skills, both through illustrations and orally, in the workshop; “How to make great figures and present your work in 3 minutes”. Here you will get an overview of “do’s” and “don’ts” from the experts. We will also be inspired by previous organizers of CCBIO JUSS who will give us ideas on the different aspects of life in academia.

Day two will bring research insights and inspiration from Professor Stein Ove Døskeland and his 45 years of research, and Researcher Nils Halberg, representing a young investigator leading an established research lab.

As always, there will be exciting scientific presentations from CCBIO junior scientists, both days, and if you have work that you would like to present, you may nominate yourself upon registration.

The modest participation fee for this symposium (500 NOK per person in double room, 1000 NOK in single room, ask your group leader for support) includes lunch both days, dinner and hotel stay in double or single occupancy, in addition to the organized bus transportation between Haukeland Campus and the Panorama Hotel & Resort at Sotra. Access to facilities are included.

Equipment

It was already mentioned in last weeks K2nytt that the faculty of medicine distributes means to assist with buying equipment or infrastructure. Applications should contain the following:

– Description of the requested equipment
– Justification why the requested equipment is a necessary investment
– Information if the equipment is already available in Bergen, either at other institutes or an older version
– Information on collaboration between institutes
– Information on planned own contribution (normally 5-10%)
– Information on laboratory space needed
– Information on planned service contracts and upgrades, including estimated costs

Applications for equipment which will be beneficial for several users will be prioritized. The completed form is to be sent to me by Monday December 10th, 2018.

SFF-V process at K2

UiB wants the research environments to already now start the process towards a new SFF application round (expected in autumn 2020). They would like to get the names of potential coordinators and topic by Dec 1st. The faculty has asked the institute leaders to come with a list of potential SFF to the instituteleader meeting November 13.

The Research Council states that the scientific quality is the main criteria and would like to see centers that develop new collaborations. At the same time, also gender balance will be important to consider.

It is important to be creative and ambitious and have a complex problem to be addressed by a team of interdisciplinary research. Here is an overview over active or previous centers.

At K2 we would like input regarding potential new centers, minimum

  1. Name

(Norwegian) Obligatorisk HMS-kurs for ledere

Minner om at alle ledere ved MED-fak skal ha lederkurs HMS-seksjonen tilbyr, se under for info. Er kurset tatt før 2013 skal en ta på nytt.

Arbeidsmiljøloven (§ 3-5) stiller krav om at arbeidsgiver skal gjennomgå opplæring i arbeidet med helse-, miljø- og sikkerhet (HMS). Hensikten er å gi arbeidsgiver nødvendig kunnskap om grunnprinsippene i systematisk HMS-arbeid og hvordan dette skal praktiseres i egen virksomhet. UiB har besluttet at alle ledere ved UiB skal gjennomføre obligatorisk internt HMS-kurs for ledere.

Kursene gir oversikt over lovgivning, ansvar og roller i det systematiske HMS-arbeidet, samtidig presenteres HMS-arbeidet ved universitetet der universitetsspesifikke utfordringer og policy belyses, og det gis oversikt over institusjonens regelverk, ressurser og verktøy i HMS-saker relatert til målgruppen.

Målgruppe: Instituttledere og administrative ledere på fakultet/avdeling, institutt og i sentraladministrasjonen.

Kursdager:

  • Dag 1: Torsdag15. november, kl. 08.30-12.15: HMS-utfordringer og -policy ved UiB, Arbeidsmiljøloven
  • Dag 2: Fredag 23. november, kl. 08.30-14.15: Systematisk HMS-arbeid.
    På bakgrunn av kursets faglige innhold og utvikling må Dag 1 gjennomføres før Dag 2.

The Annual Research Presentations by the Research School in Clinical Medicine

Dear Researchers from the Department of Clinical Medicine (K1), Department of Clinical Science (K2) and Helse-Bergen. You are hereby invited to present your work to fellow researchers and the general audience at the 13th Annual Research Presentations arranged by the Research School in Clinical Medicine 23rd-25th January 2019.

If you have presented a poster or had an oral presentation at a scientific meeting or a conference in 2018, you are welcome to present your work at our conference. You can submit one contribution – either a poster or an oral presentation.

Poster presentation:

  • Each poster presenter give a short presentation of the poster to a scientific committee (around 3 minutes including questions from the scientific committee).
  • Posters should be submitted as PDF files. Please check the quality thoroughly before you submit your poster. We will print out the posters on a poster banner.

Oral presentations:

  • 10 minutes for each oral presentation + 5 minutes for discussion.
  • Please send us your PowerPoint presentation through e-mail before the event.
  • Oral presentations held at meetings in 2018 can be presented in their original form, but given that the audience will be a general medical one, it may be wise to include some additional background information.
  • Note: Due to time limitations, there will be a limit of 20 oral presentations. Only the first 20 to submit their oral presentations will be able to participate.

Prizes:

A scientific committee appointed by the Research School will evaluate all presentations held by PhD students and postdocs. Prizes will be awarded to the best posters/presentations. Building on last years success, we will also this year have a “People’s Choice Award”.

Submission:

Send abstract (if oral presentations) or abstract+poster (if poster presentation) to forskningspresentasjoner.forskerskolen@uib.no. Abstract should be possible to open with Microsoft Word and posters should be sent as PDF. NB: Mark the file(s) and your mail’s subject with your name, the affiliation you have (K1, K2 or Helse-Bergen) and if you are a PhD student or postdoc/researcher. Specify whether you want to have an oral or poster presentation. As in previous years, we would like to have a short Norwegian summary which is easy to understand for the general audience (typically 5 sentences long in a Word document).

(Norwegian) Masterprosjekt i farmasi 2019/2020

Senter for farmasi vil med dette oppfordre fagmiljø til å tilby masterprosjekt i farmasi som skal gjennomføres i perioden høst 2019 – vår 2020.

Dersom fagmiljøene har pågående eller planlagte forskningsprosjekter som kan være aktuelle for mastergradsstudenter i farmasi, ønsker vi at veileder utarbeider et kort sammendrag for aktuelle prosjekter og sender dette til post@farmasi.uib.no innen 14. desember 2018.

Sammendrag/ prosjektbeskrivelse skal inneholde:

  • Prosjektets/oppgavens tittel/arbeidstittel.
  • Navn på veileder(e) og veileder(e)s arbeidssted/hvor oppgaven skal utføres, kontaktinformasjon til veileder/kontaktperson. Alle studenter bør ha 2 veiledere, og skal ha minst en UiB-ansatt (intern) veileder.
  • Kort sammendrag av prosjektets problemstilling, målsetning for oppgaven og informasjon om hvilke forskningsmetoder som er aktuelle i prosjektet. Det skal framgå hvorfor oppgaven vurderes som aktuell for mastergradsstudenter i farmasi.
  • Eventuelt informasjon om hvilke studieretningsemner som er aktuelle i oppgaven.

Masteroppgaven:
Studentene på kull15 (20 stk.) på Integrert masterprogram i farmasi ved UiB skal undervisningsåret 2019/2020 gjennomføre en mastergradsoppgave tilsvarende 45 studiepoengs omfang og studieretningsemner på 15 studiepoeng.

Innleveringsdato for masteroppgaven for kull15 er 20. mai 2020.

Studentene skal ha valgt oppgave og inngått «Avtale for mastergradsoppgave i farmasi» om veiledning innen 1. april 2019.

Senter for farmasi planlegger et møte for masterstudentene fredag 15. februar 2019 hvor vi inviterer dere til å presentere deres masterprosjekt. Dagen avsluttes med Farmasøytisk Vinterfest.

(Norwegian) Glimt fra den medisiniske historie: boksalg og signering

Denne antologien beskriver høydepunkter fra den medisinske historien i Bergen. Den følger også historien fra antikken, gjennom middelalderen med fremveksten av universitetene, og kampen for vårt første egne universitet. Pionerene fra Bergen Museum og byens sykehus følges frem til opprettelsen av Haukeland Sykehus og etableringen av Universitetet i Bergen.

Excellence in Research

How to create excellent research was the main theme of this year’s autumn meeting for the K.G. Jebsen centers. Some of the country’s most successful researchers shared their experiences. It was pointed out that success (not unexpectedly) is the result of hard work, but all emphasized two important elements to become a leader in research: research stay abroad and networking.

A stay abroad gives the opportunity to learn new techniques and work with ambitious colleagues who are more skilled than you. At the same time, a stay abroad is an excellent opportunity to create your own network. The practical difficulties of going abroad, perhaps with a partner and children, was highlighted. However, a shorter stay is better than no stay. UiB pursues a conscious policy in this area, for example, by postdoctoral fellows receiving an additional year if they go abroad, sabbaticals, and channels to apply for additional funding.

Success is infectious. If one of the PhD students in the lab manages to publish a paper in Nature or a corresponding journal, chances are bigger that you will be able to do the same. If your labfriend gets an ERC-Starting Grant, chances are that you can be equally successful. Harald Stenmark at the Institute of Cancer Research at UiO is one of three Norwegians to receive two ERC-Advanced Grants. He talked about the positive cycle of research. Project funds provide the opportunity to invest in equipment, personnel and money to do studies. This gives (hopefully) good results and publications, which can be used to apply for more funding for more equipment, people and studies. Ole Andreassen, who heads Norment, one of the Centers of Excellence (along with, among others, Vidar Steen and Stephanie Le Hellard at K2) highlighted the enormous importance of international networks to map the genetic mechanisms of psychiatric diseases.

The start is often the most difficult part and the institution should play an major role facilitator. K2 is doing quite well in this regard and we have many excellent examples to follow. I am confident that we can create more excellent research in the future. The next chance to excell is to obtain a new Center of Excellence. The Medical Faculty wants drafts of new centres by 1 December. More information will follow in K2-news.

Vi viser til frist for registrering av restferie og eventuell søknad om overføring av restferie som var satt til 1. oktober. Instituttet vil nå starte med å registrere restferie som avviklet for alle ansatte som ikke selv har registrert ferie / søkt om overføring.

Hva innebærer dette?

Dersom du ikke selv har oppdatert ditt fearieregnskap slik at det nå står i null vil instituttet legge inn restferie som avviklet i HR-portalen. Dersom registreringen gjort av instituttet ikke stemmer med den ferieavviklingen du har hatt / ønsker kan du selv gå inn i HR-portalen og korrigere dette. Korrigering av registrert ferie må gjøres innen 31.12.18. Etter denne datoen blir ferieregnskapet for 2018 låst.

Registrering/korrigering av ferie, og søknad om eventuell overføring av ferie gjøres i ferieskjema i HR-Portalen.

Arbeidsliv i endring – hva med arbeidsmiljøet?
Frokostseminar 8. november

Fleksibel – kompetent – trygg
Hvordan tar vi vare på arbeidsmiljøet i et mer effektivt, fleksibelt og digitalt arbeidsliv? Et godt arbeidsmiljø kjennetegnes av god ledelse, medvirkning fra ansatte og tydelige organisatoriske rammer. Kompetanse, mestring og anerkjennelse gir både trygghet og trivsel.

Vernetjenesten ved UiB ønsker å skape en arena ved UiB der vi kan ta opp betydningen av arbeidsmiljø. Vi vil invitere til frokostseminarer for å snakke om arbeidsliv og arbeidsmiljø under endring og omstilling. Målgruppen er alle ansatte og ledere. Samlingene vil bli holdt ulike steder på campus.

Det andre frokostseminaret arrangeres torsdag 8. november kl. 0830-1000 i Jusbygget, Auditorium 3. Dørene åpner kl. 0800 med enkel servering fra kl. 0815.

Vi retter denne gangen oppmerksomheten mot betydningen av en god HMS-kultur.
