(Norwegian) Innføring av Leganto, system for digitale litteraturlister

Til emneansvarlige ved UiB. UiB har anskaffet et system for digitale litteraturlister, Leganto. Slike systemer kommer nå for hele sektoren, og målet er økt kvalitet, tilgjengelighet og mer effektive arbeidsprosesser.

Les mer om systemet i denne nyhetssaken på ansattsidene. Systemet erstatter dagens løsning for:

  • Opplasting av litteraturlister i Mitt UiB
  • Innmelding av referanser til Litteraturkiosken
  • Innmelding av referanser til Akademika

I vår skal systemet implementeres på hele UiB. Fristen for å lage og levere litteraturlister i Leganto er 2. mai 2019, slik at de kan behandles/klargjøres av biblioteket før endelig publisering for studentene i Mitt UiB innen den sentrale fristen 1. juni.

Family Blix’ fond to support medical research

The aim of the fund is to support medical research especially in the field of cardiovascular disease and cancer, including diagnostics. Support is in particular aimed towards research projects that combine basic and clinical research, with slight priority given to applications from early stage researchers. Please send the application to the fund board with lawyer Erik Keiserud, Advokatfirmaet Hjort DA, postboks 471 Sentrum, 0105 Oslo. Deadline for application is 25 June 2019. You need to use a designated form that you will receive when you send an inquiry to: goe@hjort.no.

(Norwegian) Kurs innen vurdering i medisinsk utdanning

Vedlagt ligger informasjon om ulike internasjonale kurs innen vurdering i medisinsk utdanning i 2019. Gjennom UiBs deltakelse i Nasjonal delprøve i medisin kan våre ansatte søke støtte til å delta på disse kursene. Det er primært faglig ansatte som lager eksamensoppgaver til medisinstudiet som er målgruppen, men teknisk-administrative som jobber tett med eksamen kan også søke.

Søknader sendes til Martha.Dahle@uib.no innen 1. mai og 1. september. Øvrig info finnes i vedlegget og på UiOs nettsider.

We have now posted the final scientific programs of CCBIO’s two international symposia in May 2019 at the Solstrand SPA hotel, on the event websites. Also note that registration deadline is extended to April 24th, as we can still make room for some more participants. 7th CCBIO Annual Symposium May 13th-14th

The 2018 symposium was a success with more than 200 participants and we expect the 2019 symposium to be at least as good. We have secured a range of international and national speakers and some of the highlights will be the talks by Bob Löwenberg, William Foulkes,  Jonathan Irish, Marta Bertolaso, and many other distinguished speakers. The last day will end on a high note with a lecture by Omid Farokhzad. This keynote address is part of the distinguished Volterra lectures series organized by our partner Digital Life Norway (DLN).

We will have two extended poster sessions where younger researchers can present their work (poster abstract deadline now April 17th), and ample time for interaction between the participants. The symposium is open for all, so please feel free to circulate this invitation.

The heavily subsidized registration fee is 2500 NOK/260 Euro per person. For the program, registration and the practical information sheet (obligatory reading before asking questions), please consult the links below:

Satellite Symposium on Deep Tissue Profiling May 12th

The Satellite Symposium on Deep Tissue Profiling is initiated with lunch at 12.00 before the scientific program starts at 13.00.

The satellite symposium will consist of talks focusing on the opportunities inherent to new technology, in particular the Hyperion Imaging System, both in terms of technology and in use of this technology for research purposes. Speakers include e.g. Jonathan Irish, Kurt Schalper, Teijo Pellinen and other distinguished experts.

The subsidized registration fee is 500 for the meeting incl. lunch and 1500 if you want to attend dinner and stay overnight at Solstrand. We have a total of 70 rooms available.

Awards from the institute and the faculty

Time is running fast and we are getting closer to the first K2 retreat at Solstrand 28./29.3.2019. In this context the institute will hand out several awards. At Solstrand the best Pecha Kutcha presentation and the best website will be awarded. In addition, we will have an award for the Co-worker of the year, and there we need your help. Who of your colleagues is responsible for your wellbeing at work? Who does a lot more than expected and is always present when needed? Please come with suggestions HERE (include a short reasoning). Deadline is 25.3.2019. Remember that also the deadline for updating the website is 25.3. (link to the updated website has to be sent to Julie by 25.3.).

In addition to the institute’s awards, also the Faculty of Medicine has announced several awards for 2018, so now is your chance to nominate a colleague/environment (or yourself!). The categories are

  • Publication of the year
  • Research group of the year
  • PhD thesis of the year
  • Dissemination award

as well as a total of 3 awards for education

  • Quality of the studies
  • Best teacher
  • Internationalization of the studies

The institute can forward up to two candidates in each category, so do not hesitate to come with a suggestion (with short reasoning). Fill in the form HERE. Deadline is 1.4.2019.

(Norwegian) Utlysning av insentivmidler 2019, Det medisinske fakultet

I 2017 ble det vedtatt en ny insentivordning for studiekvalitet. UiBs budsjettpost «kvalitet i studiene og gjennomstrømning» har samme varighet som strategiperioden, det vil si ut 2022.

Formålet med insentivordningen er å tilrettelegge for utviklingstiltak som skal bidra til økt studiekvalitet og til økt gjennomføring. Utdanningsutvalget tildeler midler i henhold til vedtatte retningslinjer og satsningsområder.

Budsjettet er på rundt 2 millioner kroner. 100 000 av disse går til Ugleprisen. Retningslinjene for insentivordningen følger vedlagt.

I retningslinjenes punkt 2 går det fram at de prioriterte områdene for året er omtalt i utlysingsbrevet.

Insentivmidlene skal brukes til «Utviklingstiltak innenfor kvalitet i studiene og gjennomføring». For 2019 foreslår UiB følgende fokusområder:

  • Tiltak som fremmer praksisordninger og nytenkning om praksisnær læring
  • Tiltak som styrker mentorordningen
  • Utprøving/Variasjon av nye vurderingsformer
  • Tiltak som fremmer studentaktiv læring.Når det gjelder utprøving av nye vurderingsformer, viser vi til styresak fra november 2017 (145/17) om Endringer i forskrift om opptak, studier, vurdering og grader ved Universitetet i Bergen hvor vedtaksteksten sier (utdrag):

I forbindelse med utprøving av nye eller alternative lærings-, undervisnings- og vurderingsformer kan fakultetene etter søknad gis anledning til å fravike bestemmelsene i kapittel 5-7 i forskriften her i en nærmere angitt prøveperiode. Det forutsettes at ethvert tiltak som nevnt blir evaluert. Regelen her gjelder fram til avslutningen av studieåret 2019/2020.

De som ønsker å bruke denne avviksbestemmelsen, må søke om det.

For å få tildelt midler kreves det at prosjektene må vurderes å være klart i målgruppen og at de har den nødvendige kvaliteten. Dersom det ikke er tilstrekkelig med prosjekter som oppfyller de forutsetningene som er satt, vil ikke hele budsjettposten bli brukt. Midlene skal brukes til tidsavgrensede prosjekter.

Av retningslinjene går det fram at kr. 100 000,- av potten settes av til Ugleprisen. Ugleprisen for god utdanningskvalitet blir utdelt årlig på bakgrunn av innmelding fra fakultetene. Fakultetet nominerer vinneren av fakultetets studiekvalitetspris til Ugleprisen ved UiB, jf. retningslinjene for fakultetsprisene. Andre kandidater til studiekvalitetsprisen kan bli nominert.

Fagmiljø som vil søke om insentivmidler gjør dette til fakultetet på vedlagte søknadsskjema (det finnes en Word-versjon av skjemaet bak PDF-versjonen i ePhorte).

Fakultetet oversender søknader samlet til UiB. Vi ber om at søknader fra programutvalg og institutt oversendes fakultetet innen 3. april 2019.

(Norwegian) Barne- og ungdomssjukehuset skifter navn til Glasblokkene fra 6. mai

Det nye navnet til barne- og ungdomssjukehuset (BUS) skal identifisere bygningen og gjøre det lettere å finne frem for pasienter og pårørende. I tillegg skal det være norsk, forståelig, enkelt å uttale og lett å lese.


Endringen gjelder fra og med mandag 6. mai.

Besøks- og leveringsadresse blir som før.
Alle enheter må selv sørge for at oppmøtested blir endret i informasjon til pasienter og besøkende. Vær spesielt oppmerksom ved utsendelse av innkallingsbrev med tildelt time 6. mai eller senere.

NorSeq sequencing seminar 2019

National Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine (NorSeq) organizes a series of seminars to present sequencing possibilities in Norway.

The half-day seminar will outline services offered by the consortium/National sequencing core facilities and what it can do for your research. Bergen seminar will take place in BB-bygget Auditorium 4, on 1st  of April 2019, from 12:00 to 16:00.

Announcement of competence funding for group C (technical/administrative staff)

Funding for development and competence raising has been budgeted also for 2018. It is possible to apply for funding for professional development and competence raising measures up until NOK 5000.

The criteria for allocation of funds are:

  1. The application must be professionally relevant and supported by the research group leader.
  2. The research group must contribute with 50% of the costs.

Nasjonal delprøves midler fra NOKUTs Utdanningskvalitetspris går blant annet til kompetanseheving innenfor medisinsk vurdering. Nå kan du søke om å få dekket reise, opphold og kursavgift via utgiftsrefusjon. Tilbudet er rettet mot ansatte som ønsker å ta kurs innen vurdering i medisinsk utdanning.

Vi oppfordrer deg til å søke om plass på ett av kursene! Du kan også melde interesse for å delta på kurs i 2020. Kursdatoer for 2020 er ikke publisert enda, men forventes å ligge omtrent på samme tidspunkt som for 2019.

Hvem kan søke?

Alle som lager eksamensoppgaver til eksamener ved medisinstudiene ved norske universiteter og/eller lager oppgaver til nasjonal delprøve i medisin kan søke.
Teknisk-administrative som jobber tett med eksamen kan også søke, selv om de ikke lager oppgaver.

Hvordan søker du?

Søknaden bør inneholde:

  • en kortfattet beskrivelse av din rolle i forhold til eksamener
  • hvilket kurs som er aktuelt

Frist: 1. mai og 1. september

Do we see you at Solstrand – there is room for K2’ers

This year’s highlight – the K2 meeting at Solstand – is approaching. The seminar is a prime opportunity for the research groups to present themselves and get to know others. We will hear more about communication, innovation and future plans, and our strategy for the future will be hammered out. K2 employees in Bergen, Stavanger and Haugesund will be represented. The whole session will be led by Pål Njølstad who will be back from Boston full of inspiration and ideas.

You don’t want to miss that do you?

There is still room for more participants. We know that some group leaders will be unable to come, but we want all the groups to be represented and presented.

Dietary assessment: Challenges and future directions
In nutritional research, we depend on self-reported dietary data to be able to study associations between diet and health. These data have many limitations, and it is challenging to gather precise dietary data. Several investigators even clams that self-reported data is so unreliable that it cannot be used in research. But is it really the case?

Dr. Sharon Kirkpatrick leads a public health nutrition research program based at the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Her research primarily focuses on understanding dietary patterns in populations and influences on these patterns, using a systems thinking lens to consider the array of factors at play. Dr. Kirkpatrick also has longstanding interests in food access among marginalized populations. She was named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in 2017 and 2018, and has received merit awards from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Waterloo.

Biomarkers for dietary intake
Biomarkers for dietary intake could be a tool for limiting misclassification in nutrition research where self-reported dietary intake data are used, thus biomarkers are extensively used in research today. But are they reliable?

Jutta Dierkes is professor in Clinical Nutrition at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Bergen. She is the chairman of the board of the Mohn Nutrition Research Lab, and also the chariman of the program committee for nutrition at the Faculty of Medicine.

Considering most people are on winter vacation, I will try to keep this short and sweet. In September last year I communicated anticipated changes in the research council of Norway, funding application system including; changing the organization of calls, templates, evaluation process, dates, etc. and this has affected particularly the FORNY program.

The Research Council has announced commercialization funding for milestone projects aimed at completing the next, most critical milestone phase to clarify key questions essential for determining which course to pursue. This call is targeted towards proposals for new projects that have not previously been awarded commercialization funding from the Research Council. This call for proposals is part of a collaborative effort between the BIOTEK2021, NANO2021, IKTPLUSS, Transport 2025, MAROFF, BIONÆR, SAMANSVAR and FORNY2020 programs.

The closing date for submission of applications for this call is 5 April 2019. A new call for proposals will be available in May.  The projects may apply for funding of between 200.000 – 500. 000 NOK each with project duration of 3 – 12 months. The final decisions on allocations for milestone projects will be announced as soon as possible and by at the latest three months after the application was submitted (Applications will be assessed by the FORNY programme administration).

If you feel that April 5this too soon, the RCN has also published that it will have new commercialization project funding in the Autumn with deadline of 25thSeptember. Lykke til!

(Norwegian) Impact Challenge Innovasjonsprogram

Våren 2019 vil Impact Challenge programmet samle representanter fra ulike kunnskapsmiljøer, brukere, pårørende, studenter, akademikere, arbeidsgivere og ansatte innen helsevesenet for å lete etter løsninger som kan bidra til bedre psykisk helse.

Med innovasjonsmetodikk, forretningsutvikling og designtenkning som verktøy arbeider deltakere frem nye løsninger i samarbeid med dem som kjenner utfordringene aller best. I tre faser vil programmet by på Innsikt, Ideutvikling og Inkubasjon for å forstå utfordringene, lete etter mulige løsninger og se om de beste løsningene lar seg realisere.
