Additional agreement for stays abroad

Please note that a new edition of the Supplementary Agreement for stays abroad has been published.
All employees who are going to work abroad for more than 1 month must complete and get an additional agreement approved before they travel abroad.

You can find the agreement on the website of the International Centre; Plan your research stay abroad | Traveling researchers | UiB

Pay special attention to the fact that for trips to places where the authorities advise against travel to, the trip must be approved by the dean of the faculty and the HR director for the joint administration
(see page 5 of the agreement).

16 M NOK, at least four Nordic and Baltic countries. Making the most of the potentials and mitigating the risks and harmful consequences of the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Nordic-Baltic region.

–  HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-01-TB-01-two-stage: Global collaboration action for the development of vaccines for reducing the disease burden of Tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa. 15 MEUR per project. Research and Innovation action.
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-01-MALARIA-02-two-stage: Global collaboration action for research on existing Malaria therapeutics and clinical development of new antimalarial candidates. 10 MEUR
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3 -2025-01-NTD-03-two-stage: Accelerating the development of prophylactic vaccines against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in sub-Saharan Africa. 15 MEUR
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-02-FELLOWSHIP-01-two-stage: Global Health EDCTP3 and contributing partners funded Strategic Training Hubs for Fellowships in Public Health covering Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Modelling. 6.7 MEUR per project. Coordination and support action.
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-03-NETWORKS-01-two-stage: Global collaborative action for strengthening the Regional Networks of Excellence and Epidemic Preparedness Consortia. 
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-04-CH-01-two-stage: Global collaborative action tackling diarrhoeal diseases in the context of climate and health. 5 MEUR
– HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2025-04-ACCESS-02-two-stage: Transformative Innovations in global health. 2 MEUR

Innovative Health Initiative – Call 9
Innovation projects in collaboration with health or medical industry. The industry partners must contribute with 45% own financing.
– Topic 1 (SO1): 10 MEUR. Contribute towards a better understanding of the determinants of health and priority disease areas.
– Topic 2 (SO2): 15 MERU. Integrate fragmented health research and innovation efforts bringing together health industry sectors and other stakeholders, focussing on unmet public health needs, to enable the development of tools, data, platforms, technologies and processes for improved prediction, prevention, interception, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases, meeting the needs of end-users;
– Topic 3 (SO3): 15 MEUR. Demonstrate the feasibility of people-centred, integrated healthcare solutions.
– Topic 4 (SO4): 15 MEUR. Exploit the full potential of digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare;
– Topic 5 (SO5): 10 MEUR. Enable the development of new and improved evaluation methodologies and models for a comprehensive assessment of the added value of innovative and integrated healthcare solutions

NordForsk – Nordic Research Infrastructure Hubs
6 MIO NOK; requires 66% own funding and collaboration with other Nordic countries. A Nordic Research Infrastructure Hub is a long-term partnership between Nordic universities, universities of applied sciences, university colleges, research institutes and/or managers of research infrastructure in a consortium that provides a framework for establishing, enhancing and/or expanding RI cooperation in the Nordic region.

European Innovation Council – Pathfinder Open
3 MEUR, requires consortium of at least three legal entities in three different EU countries. For radically new technology and relevant potential solutions at TRL 1-4.

Call for applications – Young CAS Grant 2026/2027

Hi,

The Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) has now announced two ‘Young CAS Grants’ for the period from January 2026 to December 2027. The Young CAS program aims to support outstanding early-career researchers by providing them with the opportunity to establish independent research networks and gain experience as research leaders.

Please note that the application deadline is 21 May 2025

Aim: Supporting young researchers through workshop, research stay and networking opportunities for young CAS PI, which will contribute to realizing the project’s objectives and further the applicant’s career

With the following criteria-

  • The age of 40 by the application deadline.
  • Full time academic position at one of the partner institutions (permanent/temporary) and at least for the first year of the program.
  • Laboratory based research cannot be conducted at CAS (but laboratory work, fieldwork or data collection are welcome if they aim to develop the theoretical aspect of the research).

Amount: Up to NOK 750 000 (24 months duration).

REMINDER – Announcement of Falch’s Junior and Senior prize

Consul Søren Falch and ophthalmologist Sigurd Falch’s Fond are now announcing two awards to outstanding researchers at the Faculty of Medicine.

Falch’s Senior Prize is awarded to established researchers who have shown leadership within their own research area. Price amount is NOK. 150,000. Only department heads can nominate candidates for the senior prize. See attached call text.
Falch’s Junior Prize is awarded to young researchers under the age of 40 who have carried out research work of great scientific or social importance. Price amount is NOK. 100,000. All professors at the Faculty of Medicine have the right to nominate candidates. See attached call text.

DEKANKAFFI 2 – Area efficiency: What does it mean for our faculty?

It’s ready for a new dean’s cafe, and this time it’s the land efficiency project we’re going to talk about. Due to the financial situation at UiB, the management at the university has decided that there will be a target of at least 10% area efficiency over the next few years.

What will this mean for our faculty and our employees? How should we proceed? Dean Per Bakke brings with him the leader of the working group for the area project, head of the Department of Biomedicine, Frode Berven.
