Since 2010, BTO and Sparebanken Vest invited researchers to participate in the ideas competition. The competition aims to encourage communication of research results, highlighting environments conducive to innovation and raise awareness of the value of research and innovation.
A combination of basic and applied Research
Thw winner of the ideas competition 2014, Bodil Holst, attended With the idea of verifying a New Method for mask based lithography.
-This Project is an excellent example of how basic and applied Research og hand in hand, and personally I think this is one of the best ideas I’ve ever had. I am Grateful that others share this view, she said as she accepted the award.
The jury stated that the idea could be pioeering in the market if it succeeds.
Bodil accepted the award on Bergen Næringsråd annual confrence in 2014. Her Project received media attention, and was featured in Bergens Tidene (BT) (Bodils jewelery can provide IT revolution), Høyden (The practical gems) and in Forskingsrådet (From jewelery to smart Technology. ”This year’s Scientific idea” – less, more, bigger, faster).
Scientists and staff, including PhD students and post- doctorate at all BTO owners or partner institutions can submit their idea. One or more researchers (including a group) can participate.
This includes the University of Bergen (UiB), Haukeland University Hospital, IMR, HiB, Norwegian School of Economics, Christian Michelsen Research, Haraldsplass Hospital, NIFES, Nofima and Uni Research,

Deadline: October 17th 2016
The jury consists of competent and experienced persons in research, private and public sectors in Bergen. They will select the winner based on whether it is a novelty, impact it can have on society, potential applications and probability of success.
The winner will be announced in front of prominent politicians, academics and business people in Bergen Industry Council annual conference on November 18th. The best idea is rewarded with 300,000 NOK to further develop their project.
The submitted ideas are treated with confidentiality, and the winning idea will only be described in general terms and in cooperation with the winner.
