Nils Normann’s travel grant to Øyvind Bruserud

k2nytt_2017_uke-13_oyvind-bruserud_portrettAt the Norwegian Society for Endocrinology’s winter conference, Øyvind Bruserud received the Nils Normann’s travel grant. Bruserud is a PhD student affiliated to the endocrine research group at K2, led by Eystein Husebye. The grant will fund a stay abroad this spring at the University of Oxford. Here, Bruserud will investigate immunological mechanisms in autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1. K2 congratulate!

k2nytt_2017_uke-12_nytt-navn_thomas-legoyWe present Thomas Aga Legøy, Master of biology at the University of Bergen. Thomas started on 15 March 2017 as a PhD student at K2, in the group for diabetes research. He will characterize cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the gradual failure of insulin producing β-cells in diabetes, under supervision of Simona Chera. If you want to say hello, he is in the 6th floor of the new Children and Youth Hospital (BUS1).

New names

16976489_1260089977419101_656364950_nIntroducing Ingeborg Eskerud, cand.med and research line at the University of Bergen. Ingeborg began in January 2017 as a Ph.D. fellow at Bergen Hypertension and Cardiac Dynamics Group. She will work on imaging of the coronary arteries of heart patients with chest pain, under the guidance of May Tone Salary Bakken and Eva Gerdts. If you want to say hello you can find her in the 9th floor of the lab building.

New Names

hanna-f-skjakodegard-_001Introducing Hanna Flækøy Skjåkødegård, special physical therapist with a masters degree in clinical health science-obesity and health from NTNU. Hanna started as a Ph.D fellow at K2 on February 1st 2017 and has Pétur B. Júlíusson as supervisor. Hanna’s PhD project is based on FABO study (family-based cognitive behavioral treatment for children and adolescents with severe obesity) that in the years 2014-2018 conducted at Clinic for overweight, Haukeland University Hospital. If you want to say hello to Hannah her office is in the 6th floor in the new children hospital (BUS 1).

New K2 News editor – Johnny Laupsa-Borge

15577715_1199340486827384_880035647_nJohnny Laupsa-Borge starts next week as the editor of K2 News. He holds a master’s degree in human nutrition from the University of Bergen, and acceded in December to a post as research fellow at K2. He is affiliated to the research groups Ueland / Nygård (G3) and Hormones (G2). His main supervisor is Ottar Nygård.

Johnny has assumed the responsibility for K2 News as part of his mandatory work at K2. We encourage all employees and group leaders to contact Johnny if you have something to share with the rest of us at K2, e.g., new research or presentation of research groups.

linnIntroducing Linn Christine Meland, Senior Executive in HR at K2 from 02.01.2017 (substitute for Elin Myhrvold). Linn Christine holds a Masters degree in archeology from the University of Bergen in addition to further education in personnel work / economy of NKS. Happy New Year!

Per BakkeI hope everybody have had a peaceful Christmas and used the opportunity to recreate in the Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This editorial will mention three deadline coming up in January. The first is the opportunity to apply for small assets (SMÅFORSK) January 13th. This has been the topic of a recent editorial by Eystein.

Kristof Vlaeminck is the head of the EU office of UoB in Brussels, He will give a half day workshop on “How to write a good proposal?” on January 19th, The workshop is of relevance to those who plan to or are considering writing an EU application. The workshop has room for 20 participants on a first first apply first serve basis. Sign up to Irene here. 

Finally The KG Jebsen call for proposals for translational research should be mentioned. The faculty of Medicine and Odontology wants to promote candidates and hold a prequalification round in which leading research groups are asked to submit a 2-pages draft of a proposal. Requirements for the draft is given here.

The faculty in collaboration with the Haukeland University Hospital will then pick four applicants who will be invited to write a full application. The deadline for submitting the draft is January 24th. The draft should be sent to Julie.

Mia has master’s degree in management from the Norwegian School of Management as well as finance / administration from the bachelor program.
