Dear everyone!
This week was the deadline for submitting research groups to the Norwegian Research Council’s evaluation of medicine and health sciences. With good help from Susanna, 10 research groups/centers from K2 were registered: Endocrine Medicine (leader: Eystein Husebye), Research Group for Infection and Microbiology (leader: Rebecca Cox), Oncology (leader: Stian Knappskog), Pharmaceutical Group (leader: Lars Herfindal), Mohn Center for diabetes precision medicine (head: Pål Njølstad), Broegelmann Research Laboratory (head: Helena Erlandsson Harris), Paediatric Follow-up Group (leader: Camilla Tøndel), Bergen Respiratory Research Group (head: Tomas Eagan), Centre for Pharmacy (head: Reidun Kjome) and Precision Oncology (head: Karl-Henning Kalland). By June 2023, we will receive feedback from the RCN, and in September 2023, a self-evaluation form and impact cases form will be sent out with a deadline of January 2024. Thank you so much to those who take on this job!
Have a really good and sunny weekend!
The faculty has asked us to remind our scientific employees about the requirements for assessment committee at dissertation, see here.
The Nordic Cancer Union (NCU) provides funding to support and stimulate collaborative cancer research within the Nordic countries. The applying researcher’s and collaborators involved in the project must be working in at least three, and preferably several different Nordic countries. The research project must be cancer relevant and uniquely suited to be carried out within the Nordic countries, and the effect of collaboration should be synergistic.
NCU research grants are provided for one year.
Call for NCU research grant application deadline: 1 September 2023, 4 pm (EETs).
Guidelines: NCU-Call-Guidelines-2023

The EATRIS-Plus Staff Exchange programme is designed to stimulate interactions between EATRIS nodes and institutions. The aim of the exchange is to foster a culture of research and innovation, supporting individual learning, best practice and knowledge exchange in the areas of infrastructure operations, technical development (laboratory work) and stakeholder management. Travel grants up to €1,500 are available, and employees from all EATRIS institutes are eligible.

This course introduces the basics of incorporating gender-related and sex-specific issues into theorethical and applied research that does not otherwise address sex and gender. Such a gender-sensitive approach is increasingly becoming a mandatory element of project proposals in all programmes of the European Research Area.

We are very pleased to invite you to our seminar “See biology in new ways with single cell and spatial technology”.
The event will be held on June the 15th at 9:00 at the Bygg for Biologiske Basalfag next to the Haukeland University Hospital.
This will be a morning event that will be followed by a pizza lunch, and you will be able to hear about the latest developments in the field of single cell and spatial RNA sequencing, and how Chromium Single Cell, Visium Spatial, and Xenium In Situ platforms from 10x Genomics can help you push the boundaries of your research. Local researchers form the University of Bergen will also explain their research and showcase the applications of our technology on their research.
The aim of this meeting is to help transfer knowledge, give an opportunity to network with those undertaking similar experiments, and support researchers interested in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. Register to the talks here.

Most funding schemes incorporate innovation perspectives into their application templates. These are especially visible in the chapters on impact but go beyond and should be found as a red line throughout a good research project – or rather, research and innovation project.
Increasing your literacy on the innovation topic will not only increase your abilities to succeed with grants, but also help you make your research more relevant to society. In this course, we will discuss what “innovation” in academia actually means, get inspiration from good examples, learn about ways to increase your innovation potential, talk about innovation management in practice and about ways to collaborate with partners outside of academia; oftentimes a prerequisite for successful innovation.
Topics
• Topic 1: Innovation in academia – examples and concepts
• Topic 2: How to boost your innovation potential
• Topic 3: Innovation management in collaborative research projects
• Topic 4: Collaboration with partners outside of academia
Target group
Suitable for researchers who want to boost their innovation potential to increase the impact of their research.
