Monthly Archives: December 2024

Reminder: Have you used or/and registered your vacation?

There are still many who are registered with remaining vacation days in 2024 (paid vacation days). The accounts for K2 show 1611 days in 2024 that have not been used. This reflects approximately 64 employees who have 10 days or more that are not registered. The deadline for registration was October 1st.

We remind you of the importance of everyone entering their vacation for the entire year. This to ensures that everyone gets the rest they need and that the company’s vacation records are accurate.

If you have vacation days left, they must be taken before the end of the year. If you have forgotten to register your vacation, it must be done immediately in the self-service portal.

The link and guidance to the portal can be found here:  Self service Portal | Employee Pages | UiB

Note that you must select the ‘Request for absence’ button and ‘Create Application’.

Breakfast Meeting: Neurotechnology

Breakfast Meeting: Neurotechnology

  • Date: December 12, 2024
  • Location: Litteraturhuset in Bergen, Olav H. Hauge Hall – Bergen
  • Time: 08:30-09:15

In 2011, Dutchman Gert-Jan Oskam injured his spinal cord in a traffic accident and became paralyzed. Today, with the help of artificial intelligence and implants in his spine and brain, he can rise from his wheelchair and take a walk in the park. In the USA, a man without mobility has had hair-thin electrodes implanted in his brain, allowing him to control a computer with his thoughts. Neurotechnology is technology that interacts with, monitors, or influences the brain. This technology can help people without the ability to speak to communicate, or help people without mobility in their legs or arms to move. But does the technology also pose a risk of misuse?

In this breakfast lecture, Senior Advisor at the Biotechnology Council, Stine Hufthammer Indrelid, will explain what neurotechnology is and what it can be used for – both the benefits and the risks.
