Global Health Norway Conference 2025 – Together for Global Health

Global Health Norway Conference 2025 will be held in Bergen on 5–6 November, hosted by the Centre for International Health at UiB. The conference will address important topics such as North–South partnerships, climate change, future global health challenges and the use of artificial intelligence in the health sector. In addition, the new national research school in global health will be opened. Participation is free, and the registration deadline is 1 October.

Info about the Research Square

We will have a stand at the Research Square at Festplassen in connection with the Research Days in Bergen on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, September 20, it is open to everyone from 11:00 to 16:00. Our stand is called ‘Brush, brush for healthy lungs’. Our activities include: Animated film about the journey of bacteria from the mouth to the lungs, looking at bacteria under a microscope, plaque staining of teeth to see if you have brushed your teeth well enough, drawing your favorite bacteria, entering a giant mouth model.

It would be nice if colleagues and acquaintances would stop by.

Annual inspection of fire alarm system and voice notification in the Laboratory Building – week 40

In week 40 (September 29 – October 3), the annual inspection of the fire alarm system in the Laboratory Building will be carried out.

Personnel from Autronica will be present and carry out inspections of the building. Some beeping in the control panels can be expected during this period.

On Thursday, October 2nd, from 12:00–16:00, there will be a test of the voice alarm system. It is important to note that this is only a test – it is not necessary to evacuate the building.

This is the winner of the 2025 research prize

Tore Grimstad wins the 2025 Research Prize at Stavanger University Hospital (SUS)

Grimstad, a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology, receives the award for his pioneering work on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and for building a strong research environment at SUS. He leads a group of 12 researchers, with three completed doctorates and several projects underway.

Grimstad defended his thesis at the University of Bergen in 2013 and has been central to research at SUS since 2009. He combines clinical work with research and places great emphasis on teaching and supervision. He is also an associate professor at UiB.

He is behind the SUSI study, one of Europe's largest IBD studies with over 700 participants. The prize is 50,000 kroner and will be used for further research.

Research Director Svein Skeie praises Grimstad for his commitment and ability to create results that benefit both patients and the professional community.

Invitation to give a speech at Teachers' Day 2026

Teachers' Day will be held on January 30, 2026. We hereby invite academic communities from all faculties and departments to submit lectures, seminars, workshops and other academic contributions that profile current research at UiB. We therefore want this information to be disseminated to all relevant academic communities at both faculty and department.

What contributions do we want in 2026?
We want to create a varied program that shows the breadth of the faculties' research and dissemination. Target group
for the event are teachers and staff in secondary and upper secondary schools. Contributions should be relevant to teaching subjects, interdisciplinary topics or the teaching profession in general, with a focus on youth and society. Contributions can be lectures or conversations/debates with other contributors. We expect presentations to be around 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for questions from the audience. Evaluations from recent years have shown that participants want the opportunity for interaction, and we will therefore ensure that time is set aside for this in next year's event.

This weeks edithorial

Dear everyone!

It was really nice to see many of you at the department day on Monday. The main focus was the FAMU survey, and the groups came up with many good suggestions for improvements and things worth preserving. What made me especially happy was that a recurring theme in many groups was the strong sense of collegiality that people want to maintain. I completely agree with that! There are many areas for improvement, and one that was mentioned several times was the need for shared meeting arenas across groups.

Now the groups have to organize an action meeting separately (some have already managed it on Monday!), then we will have a joint meeting for everybody to go through the results together. The summary will then be published in K2nytt.

Intense work is being done on the multi-campus model, and now a consultation has been sent out. I encourage all the academic communities to take the time to read through the documents and provide constructive input. Here it is important to think holistically, not just your own subject and your own campus.

KI Competence Lift

In 2025, UiB will provide all technical and administrative employees with basic training in artificial intelligence. KI Kompetanseløft is a training offer consisting of three modules that gradually build up competence and skills in the use of artificial intelligence in the context of one's own everyday work.

What is AI competence development?

KI Kompetanseløft is a training offer from the University Director/UIB aimed at all technical-administrative employees at the university. The goal is to strengthen the understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and how AI tools can be used as support in everyday work. The offer is activity-based and consists of three modules, each with a short launch, a self-guided online course module and follow-up activities that can be carried out individually, in the units or in joint colloquia and learning workshops.
