This weeks edithorial

no]Ukens leder [:en]Leader of the week[:] – K2 Nytt

Dear everyone!

This autumn, we will spend a little more time to have better routines around RETTE (System for Risk and Compliance) - Processing of personal data in research projects and student assignments at UiB (Rette). In most cases, project information is transferred directly from the REK portal, but check that all mandatory information is provided. In this context, I would also like to remind you that the Health Research Act requires REK approval for all research on Norwegian territory or when the research takes place under the auspices of a research manager established in Norway (https://lovdata.no/dokument/NL/lov/2008-06-20-44). Thus, it applies to alle all projects where someone from UiB is involved in analyzing data or funding analyses, i.e. when researchers from UiB are involved in the generation of new knowledge about health, even if the project is carried out abroad (with REK approval there) or data is on a server abroad (for example on a UKBiobank server). So check if this applies to your projects, if you are in doubt, contact REK!

Autumn is also the time when I remind you of employee interviews. This year, I will have performance appraisals with all research group and core facility managers, while the research group leaders have performance appraisals in the research group. Research group leaders will also receive more information about this at our next meeting on Tuesday.

Hopefully, most of you have seen the OSKE12 posters where you can register your participation. OSKE12 is a comprehensive exam that requires important interaction between academic and administrative resources. It consists of four loops with 12 stations in each, where students are divided into 2 groups, one before and one after lunch. In order for all this to go seamlessly, we need as many helpers as possible. This is an exciting day and not least a great opportunity to meet colleagues across departments and faculties. OSKE12 will be held on 4 December. And finally: remember to register the remaining holiday for 2025 before 1.10.25.

Have a really good weekend!

Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA) available for UiB

The research information system Cristin and UiB's open, institutional archive BORA have now been replaced by
Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA), and NVA is up and running. Content from Cristin and BORA has been migrated over to NVA, and NVA
replaces all functions previously operated by Cristin and BORA.
The Norwegian Research Information Repository will gather publications and other research results, and make them openly
accessible in a common national solution. The system is run by SIKT, the sectors service provider.
The migration of other institutions' archive to NVA is still ongoing, so the system is still in a
transtition period. This may cause some instabilities inb the system until the main launch.
The main launch of NVA will happen once the migration of all archives, towards the end of September/beginning of
October.

UiB's website on NVA: https://www.uib.no/ub/172729/nva
Questions regarding NVA can be sent to nva@uib.no.

Good to know about the migration to NVA

  • All content in NVA is openly accessible for everyone.
  • Sign-in in NVA is done through Feide, and everyone with a Feide account from UiB will be able to sign in. Additionally, it will be
possible to sign in through ID-porten. To be able to register new publications and projects, and
edit existing ones, one must be associated with an institution.
  • All scientific staff will have access to edit in NVA.
  • Technical and administrative staff needing access to register or
edit in NVA, will need to be activated manually.
  • Researcher's publications and results shall be registered in NVA. The full text of publications that shall be
accessible are to be uploaded to NVA.
  • Reportation of results (NVI) will be handled through NVA.
  • The publications shown on profile pages on UiB.no will be retrieved from NVA.
  • Stable/permanent links to BORA-posts will still work.

New international partnerships strengthen collaboration in research and education

The two new projects will strengthen a global network for sustainable energy storage and Norwegian-Ugandan cooperation on global health. The partnerships will provide new initiatives and opportunities for international collaboration for students and staff at UiB, and for the partners.

One simple step can cut sick leave and save millions

"It's about ensuring enough rest time between shifts for healthcare workers, as short time between shifts can have a negative effect on health and negatively affect sick leave." Ingebjørg L. R. Djupedal

New research from UiB shows that small and cost-free changes to the rotation of healthcare workers have a positive effect on sick leave and can save society millions.
