Welcome!

Leader of the week - Silke Appel

Dear everyone!

This week is the week of the Nobel Prizes. As an immunologist, I am particularly pleased that the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology was awarded to Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi for their discoveries on peripheral tolerance (https://www.nobelprize.org/).

The deadline for giving feedback on the multi-campus model has passed, and work is now underway to get a good plan in place. Gottfried Greve is the new project manager for Vestlandslegen and comes with extensive experience into the process, which gives us confidence that we will find a good solution for the study plan in the future. Feel free to follow the newsletters from Vestlandslegen
https://www.uib.no/vestlandslegen/175706/informasjonsskriv-om-prosjekt-vestlandslegen

For the execution of OSKE12 on December 4th, we still need more helpers, remember to sign up!
https://skjemaker.app.uib.no/view.php?id=11685006

Also remember that everyone must register any outside work they may have (https://regler.app.uib.no/regler/Del-2-Forskning-utdanning-og-formidling/2.1-Forskning/2.1.4-Etikk-og-personvern-i-forskning/Reglement-og-retningslinjer-fastsatt-av-universitetsstyret/Prinsipper-for-sidegjoeremaal-for-ansatte-ved-Universitetet-i-Bergen/).

The agenda for the next faculty board meeting next week (16.10.) is available online (https://ekstern.filer.uib.no/mofa/fakultetsstyret/2025/Styresaker/Fakultetsstyresaker%20til%20m%C3%B8tet%2016.10.2025%20-%20offentlig%20versjon.pdf ), I recommend that you read through, there are several issues on the agenda that concern us at K2 (among other things, evaluation and proposals for the organization of the financial service, new study plan integrated master's program pharmacy, mandate for review of the core facilities).

And finally: Remember to sign up for the faculty's research day on Tuesday 21 October at 11:30-15:00 at Eitri. This year's theme is "New challenges in academia". https://www.uib.no/med/179793/forskningsdagen-ved-det-medisinske-fakultet-2025

Have a wonderful weekend!

New Mohn Research Center to provide groundbreaking studies on brain diseases

Every year, millions of people are affected by serious and incurable brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. The Mohn Center for Neuroprotection is now being established in Bergen, with an ambitious goal of reversing the trend and preventing disease before it breaks out.

nytt forskningssenter Mohn

Through research into the sleep disorder REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), researchers can identify people who are in a very early phase of the disease's development – often 10–15 years before the diagnosis is usually made. RBD thus acts as a biological warning, opening up a unique opportunity: to test treatments that can delay or prevent the disease's development before the brain is damaged.
