K2 Nytt

[:no]Den nye strategiplanen for K2 er nå vedtatt av instituttrådet etter at den har vært på høring rundt på instituttet. Planen bygger på SMART prinsippet, det vil si at målene skal være Spesifikke, Målbare, Ambisiøse, Realistiske og Tidfestede. Den er på vel 1 side og burde derfor være overkommelig å få med seg for alle på instituttet. Planen dekker forskning, undervisning, rekruttering, infrastruktur og kompetanse samt formidling.

Nå vil du kanskje si at det er vel og bra med en plan, men jeg kommer nå til å gjøre som jeg alltid har gjort, plan eller ikke plan. Til det vil jeg svare at strategiplanen vil berøre de fleste av oss på en eller annen måte, enten det gjelder nye undervisnings- eller studentevalueringsformer, instituttets støtte til søknader, rekrutteringsplan, HMS-arbeid på labbene eller kartlegging av det psykososiale arbeidsmiljøet.

Planen er på vel en -1- side. Jeg forventer at alle på instituttet gjør seg kjent med den. Jeg kan love at instituttledelsen skal bruke den aktivt og årlig gi en oppdatering på status med å iverksette de tiltak som omtales i planen.

Per[:en]The new K2 strategy has been formally approved by the Institute board after the draft of the plan has been commented by various groups at K2. The plan is Specific, Measurable, Ambitious, Realistic and Time specific (SMART). The plan comprises the following areas: research, teaching, recruitment, infrastructure and competence as well as dissemination.

You might argue that it’s OK with a strategy plan. However it should not influence me and my daily work.  My answer would be that the plan will affect all of us in one way or the other, be it new teaching- or student evaluation methods, K2 support for grant applications, recruitment plans, HSE initiative in the labs or assessment of the psychosocial environment.

The strategy plan covers slightly more than one page. I expect all of you to read it. I can promise that the institute will use it actively and provide an annual update as to the status of the implementation of the plan.

[:no]Vår aprilsnarr «Vil gjøre K2 internasjonal» ble ganske vellykket. Mange syntes det var en artig spøk, andre meldte at de syntes ideen faktisk var veldig god og ville være med. Derfor vil vi nå vurdere forslaget – seriøst denne gangen. Jeg kan berolige alle med at besøket på et «eliteuniversitet» på Hawaii ikke er med i planen, men instituttledelsen vil i løpet av 2016 besøke UiB sitt nye kontor i Brussel.

Lederen for kontoret som er et samarbeid med NTNU og SINTEF, er nylig ansatt og heter Kristof Vlaeminck. Vlaeminck har erfaring fra både forskning og forskningsstøtte og er for tiden nasjonalt kontaktpunkt for FP7 og Horisont 2020 samt belgisk delegat til Horisont 2020 sin programkomité for fagområdet «Secure Societies».

EU-kontoret har ambisjoner om å holde UiB oppdatert om den forskningspolitiske utviklingen i EU, samt å være en konkret hjelp til forskere som ønsker å bygge nettverk eller etablere konsortier. De har også møtelokaler som kan benyttes av UiB-forskere. Vlaeminck vil besøke UiB de neste ukene, forhåpentligvis også vårt institutt slik at vi kan få «first hand» kunnskap om hvordan vi best kan utnytte denne muligheten.

Forskningsavdelingen på UiB prioriterer internasjonalt nettverksarbeid høyt og vil kunne tilby støtte til å etablere kontakter og skrive søknader. Rent konkret sendte K2 en COST action søknad til søknadsfristen nå i april, der Forskningsavdelingen spilte en svært sentral rolle i skriveprosessen.

K2 gjør det bra på den internasjonale arenaen allerede, blant annet synliggjort gjennom mange publikasjoner i de aller høyst rangerte tidsskriftene som New England Journal of Medicine, Nature og Science de siste par årene. De illustrerer betydningen av internasjonale nettverk og hvordan vi kan bruke disse til å bli internasjonalt ledende.

Til slutt, vi vil benytte handlingsrommet til en ny forskningsrådgiver, ikke til å reise til Hawaii…

Lykke til med nettverksbygging!

Eystein[:en]Our April Fool joke «Will make K2 international» was quite successful. Many thought the joke was funny, others reported that the idea was actually very good and wanted to join. Therefore, we will now consider the proposal – seriously this time. I can reassure everyone that the visit to an «elite university» in Hawaii is not included in the plan, but the department management will during 2016 visit UoBs new office in Brussels.

The head of the office, that is a collaboration with NTNU and SINTEF, is newly employed and his name is Kristof Vlaeminck. Vlaeminck has experience from both research and research funding and is currently national contact point for FP7 and Horizon 2020 and the Belgian delegate to the Horizon 2020’s program committee for the discipline «Secure Societies».

The EU office has ambitions to keep UoB updated on the research developments in the EU, as well as being of concrete assistance to researchers who want to build networks or establish consortiums. They also have meeting rooms that can be used by researchers from UoB. The next few weeks Vlaeminck will visit UoB, and hopefully also our department, so that we can get «firsthand» knowledge of how best to utilize this opportunity.

The research department at UoB prioritises international networking and will provide support to researchers who want to establish contacts and write applications. Concretely K2 sent a COST action application this April, and the research department played a very central role in the writing process.

K2 is doing well in the international arena already, partly visible through numerous publications in very highly rated journals like the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature and Science in recent years. This illustrates the importance of international networks and how we can use these to become internationally leading.

Finally, we will use the leeway to employ a new research advisor, not to travel to Hawaii …
