We present Thomas Aga Legøy, Master of biology at the University of Bergen. Thomas started on 15 March 2017 as a PhD student at K2, in the group for diabetes research. He will characterize cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the gradual failure of insulin producing β-cells in diabetes, under supervision of Simona Chera. If you want to say hello, he is in the 6th floor of the new Children and Youth Hospital (BUS1).

Introducing Ingeborg Eskerud, cand.med and research line at the University of Bergen. Ingeborg began in January 2017 as a Ph.D. fellow at Bergen Hypertension and Cardiac Dynamics Group. She will work on imaging of the coronary arteries of heart patients with chest pain, under the guidance of May Tone Salary Bakken and Eva Gerdts. If you want to say hello you can find her in the 9th floor of the lab building.

Introducing Hanna Flækøy Skjåkødegård, special physical therapist with a masters degree in clinical health science-obesity and health from NTNU. Hanna started as a Ph.D fellow at K2 on February 1st 2017 and has Pétur B. Júlíusson as supervisor. Hanna’s PhD project is based on FABO study (family-based cognitive behavioral treatment for children and adolescents with severe obesity) that in the years 2014-2018 conducted at Clinic for overweight, Haukeland University Hospital. If you want to say hello to Hannah her office is in the 6th floor in the new children hospital (BUS 1).

Johnny Laupsa-Borge starts next week as the editor of K2 News. He holds a master’s degree in human nutrition from the University of Bergen, and acceded in December to a post as research fellow at K2. He is affiliated to the research groups Ueland / Nygård (G3) and Hormones (G2). His main supervisor is Ottar Nygård.

Johnny has assumed the responsibility for K2 News as part of his mandatory work at K2. We encourage all employees and group leaders to contact Johnny if you have something to share with the rest of us at K2, e.g., new research or presentation of research groups.

Introducing Yasaman Pakdaman, master in Biomedical Science. Yasaman started as PhD Fellow in S Johansson/PM Knappskog research groups in February If you want to say hello, you can find her on the second floor at the Center for Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine.

Introducing Linn Christine Meland, Senior Executive in HR at K2 from 02.01.2017 (substitute for Elin Myhrvold). Linn Christine holds a Masters degree in archeology from the University of Bergen in addition to further education in personnel work / economy of NKS. Introducing Maria (Mia) Holmaas, temporary position as a senior consultant at K2 from November 1st 2016. Mia has master’s degree in management from the Norwegian School of Management as well as finance / administration from the bachelor program. The position as senior consultant is split between K2 and K.G. Jebsen Center for Diabetes Research. If you want to say hello, you can find her on the 8th floor. In the laboratory building.

Introducing Maria Hernandez-Valladares, phd. in Biochemestry.
Maria began in October 2016 as postdoc at K2.

Introducing Valeriya Lyssenko, endocrinologist and genetic expert in diabetes. She received UiB and Bergen Research foundation award and was appointed as Professor in Medicine at K2, Center for Diabetes Research on September 1. She is carrying out clinical studies on pathophysiology of diabetes and chronic complications. If you want to say hello, you can find her at childrens’ hospital 3th floor

Introducing Eivind Rath, cand.med at UiB. He is a doctor and has worked several years at H araldsplass Hospital and then at the infection section at med.avd, Haukeland University Hospital. September 1st 2016 he began as a researcher at K2, linked to INFECT study, an EU funded study on necrotizing fasciitis, which is also part of Streptococcal Group. Supervisor is Trond Bruun. If you want to say hello, you can find him on the 3rd floor of Fjellsiden.

Introducing Kjersti Elvestad Hestetun. She is a doctor and has worked several years at the cancer ward. On September 9th 2016, she started as a PhD student in Olav Dahl group. If you want to say hello, you can find her on the 5th floor in the lab building

Introducing Sunniva Todnem Sakkestad, cand.med University of Bergen. She started as phd-student at K2 in September within infection medicine and immunologi, connected to ETECvac-study. Main supervisor is Kurt Hanevik.  If you want to say hello, you will find her at 5th floor in the Lab building.
