Applications are open for the annual UiB/LawTransform PhD course on “Effects of Lawfare: Courts and Law as Battlegrounds for Social Change” August 15th -30th (preparatory period from 8th). This is an interdisciplinary course open to students across UiB as well as other institutions in Norway and internationally. It is a hybrid course where the students come to Bergen for the week 22-26 August to take part in the Bergen Exchanges on Law & Social Transformation, but otherwise have digital classes and groupwork. It can also be taken as a fully digital course.
In addition to a general track, where the students analyze processes of legal mobilization and their effects across different fields, we offer three special tracks this year: Democracy & autocratization through law; Gender, sexuality, health & the law; and Contestations over natural resources & climate change.
This year’s course is organized by the Research group on Law, Politics & Welfareat the Department of Administration and Organization Theory (which from 1 August will be the Department of Government) in collaboration with LawTransform (the CMI-UiB Centre on Law & Social Transformation).
The course is free of charge, but external students who choose the hybrid version and come to Bergen for the week of the Bergen Exchanges have to pay for their travel and accommodation (with some possibilities for partial grants).
