Beyond Talk: Developing PhD Processes Through Planning, Feedback, and Assessment

The Faculty of Medicine is pleased to invite PhD supervisors to a half-day workshop with Professor Kenan Dikilitaş. Professor Kenan Dikilitaş.

This interactive workshop will focus on how supervisors can support PhD candidates in completing their doctoral research within the expected timeframe. While effective communication, mutual understanding, and formal agreements are important foundations, successful doctoral education also requires sustained engagement in meaningful academic work throughout the PhD journey.

Through practical activities and discussions, participants will explore strategies for realistic planning, constructive feedback, assessment of progress, and effective co-supervision. The workshop will highlight how these practices can help doctoral candidates better understand their development, priorities, challenges, and next steps, while strengthening their overall progression through the PhD programme.

About the Speaker
Professor Kenan Dikilitaş is affiliated with the Programme for University Pedagogy at the University of Bergen. His teaching and research focus on doctoral education and supervision, and he regularly delivers courses on PhD supervision for academic staff. Throughout his career, he has supervised more than 20 PhD candidates and has extensive experience serving on PhD committees, evaluating doctoral theses, and participating in co-supervision.
