Decision on the multi-campus model for medical school
At a meeting of the Program Committee for Medicine on November 26 (sak 28/25) became the framework for semesters 6 – 12 in a
new study model adopted. This means that the distribution of subjects and credits in the semesters has been determined,
and there will be a gradual phasing-in of new joint multi-campus courses starting in the fall of 2027 (class of 2024 -)
The faculty would like to thank all the consultation inputs to the proposal for the multi-campus model, and broad support was expressed for the main proposals in the model. Adjustments have been made in line with the inputs, also during the consideration of the matter by the program committee. Although the overall framework has been adopted, much work remains to be done to develop and detail the academic content. Semester boards and subject groups are now being engaged in further follow-up, and emphasis is being placed on the contribution of professionals from all four campuses. A deadline of 28 January 2026 has been set for the preparation of item lists for semesters 1-7, with a further deadline of 17 February 2026 for learning outcome descriptions in the same semesters. The two large subject groups in surgical and internal medicine will – as was previously announced – ensure coordination between the various specialties from the start of clinical teaching in the 5th semester and on to regional campuses from the 7th semester. Academic resource persons from all four campuses are invited to a joint gathering at Scandic Ørnen in Bergen on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Those invited can register for the gathering by the deadline of January 10, 2026: Påmelding – Fagsamling indremedisinske og kirurgiske fag i Studieplan flercampusmodell 2025 UiB

Redevelopment of areas in Bergen
As the number of students in years 1-3 in Bergen increases, this creates a need for new types of teaching spaces. A project has now been initiated under the auspices of the Property Department at UiB where the current physiology and histology rooms in the Building for Basic Biological Sciences will be converted into larger teaching spaces with flat floors. This type of space will also support pedagogical needs related to new teaching methods. The conversion is expected to take place in the period 2026 – 2027.
Collaboration in Førde
In a board meeting of Helse Førde on October 30, the preliminary project for the rehabilitation of the Angabygget was approved. Recently, work has been underway to complete a survey of the users' needs in the building in dialogue with the architects. In addition to UiB, Helse Førde, Helse Vest IKT, Høgskulen på Vestlandet and Vilje helsklynge want areas in Angabygget. See also the news story from the study trip to Førde on October 30-31, which was arranged for the first student cohort admitted this fall: Studietur til campus Førde | Vestlandslegen | UiB
Collaboration in Haugesund
A working group is now being established under the auspices of UiB to plan the Vestlandslegen project further in close dialogue between the departments, the company and the municipal health service in the Haugesund region. A first meeting of the group is planned for January 2026. In November, an inspection and discussions were also carried out where the faculty and UiB's property department looked at current UiB areas at Haugesund Hospital.
Piloting in Stavanger
In November, UiB moved into areas at Nye SUS at Ullandhaug, where there are, among other things, teaching rooms and other student and employee facilities close to the departments at the hospital. We will still have some areas on Våland in connection with the teaching that will take place there. Preparations are now underway for the first test implementation of the clinical station exam (OSKE) in Stavanger on December 4, and then the students in the 11th semester in Stavanger will participate in the same exam as students in Bergen. The first ordinary OSKE exam in Stavanger will be on Thursday, June 11, 2026 for the same cohort. The graduation ceremony for the first pilot cohort in Stavanger (cohort 2020) is also set for Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
