Would you like to participate in an important Norwegian study with an approved vaccine against bird flu?, – et sannsynlig neste pandemivirus?
At the influenza center, we conduct research on the influenza virus and the immune system. Our goal is to contribute to knowledge to create better vaccines against influenza in the future. We are now seeking volunteers between the ages of 35-75 to receive a new and approved vaccine against bird flu. We will measure how the vaccine provides protection against bird flu and how long the memory mechanisms in the immune system last after being vaccinated. WHO considers bird flu to be the virus with the greatest potential to cause the next pandemic. Bird flu is dangerous to humans, but the virus has not yet mutated so that it has the ability to become very contagious among humans. Avian influenza outbreaks are currently occurring in the USA among cows and have spread to large parts of the world among mammals. WHO has therefore prioritized creating a vaccine against bird flu as part of preparedness for the next pandemic. This vaccine will be prioritized to be given to, for example, health personnel to protect them, who are an important social resource.
The vaccine has been approved and purchased by the authorities, but has not been put into use, as fortunately there is no need for it yet.
The study aims to study the effect of this vaccine and we are looking for approximately 60 healthcare professionals who are willing to participate in the immune defense study.
The study involves receiving 2 doses of vaccine, 1 month apart, and taking samples along the way to see how the immune system forms memory mechanisms.
