Formålet med et verifiseringsprosjekt er å redusere teknologisk og markedsmessig usikkerhet i prosjektet. Målet ved sluttført verifiseringsprosjekt er at de mest kritiske spørsmål og usikkerheter er avklart slik at neste ledd i kommersialiseringsprosessen blir utløst.
