On 27 October, the Faculty of Medicine and Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) will hold their joint meeting of the Education Council. The meeting takes place twice a year and focuses on how the collaboration is functioning and whether any adjustments are needed. This time, the main topic will be the Vestlandslegen initiative, and possibly also the conclusion of MED2015 next year. Participants include clinic directors at SUS, members of the hospital administration and leadership, as well as representatives from the Faculty of Medicine and its departments. As with Haukeland University Hospital (HUS), we have a Level 3 agreement (guideline) that describes the principles and organization of the collaboration. At this meeting, we will take a closer look at certain parts of the agreement and how they are being implemented in practice.
For us at SUS, autumn is also the time when we receive an overview of the hospital trust's research output from the previous year (2025). Much can be said about the results, but I would like to highlight a figure that illustrates the joint publication activity between SUS and UiB, primarily involving the Faculty of Medicine, over the years. The figure shows that many researchers also publish and collaborate with the University of Stavanger (UiS), and that this collaboration has increased over time. From UiB's perspective, it is important to consider not only collaboration related to students, but also cooperation in research and between research groups at both institutions. Food for thought?
Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend,
Svein Skeie
