There are already a lot of Christmas decorations in place around our buildings, and there will certainly be even more Christmas spirit in the future. It is important that we also think about fire safety, so below are some reminders:
- Candles are not allowed. Instead, use LED lights, which provide about the same nice atmosphere, but with much less risk.
- Make sure to keep marking signs (green signs with white arrows) free of decorations – the main rule is that you should have a clear view of such signs within a few meters of walking distance. Fire safety systems (marking signs, smoke detectors, sprinkler heads) should not be used to hang decorations.
- Make sure to keep escape corridors, emergency exits and stairwells free of obstacles.
- Do not cover light fixtures and lamps.
- Limit the use of extension cords.
- Make sure electrical Christmas decorations are free of damage and faults, and turn them off after the end of the working day.
The start of Advent is also a great opportunity to check fire safety at home and make sure smoke alarms are working properly and have new batteries.
