A few years ago, researchers from the University of Bergen managed, for the first time in history, to collect samples from one of the most extreme and inaccessible environments on the seafloor, deep beneath the Arctic ice sheet. The findings reveal extreme hot springs, fragile metal-rich chimney structures and enormous amounts of hydrogen that could be crucial in the search for life in the solar system.
