Glove use, and choosing the right glove

Gloves should be worn to protect yourself, your sample and/or other people. Wearing gloves minimizes but does not eliminate contamination of the hands; good hand hygiene is therefore important.

If you use gloves to protect your samples, remember that hands with gloves transfer substances and microorganisms between objects and people in the same way as hands without gloves.

Do not wear gloves when touching things like:

  • o Door Handles
  • o The buttons in the elevator
  • o The washbasin
  • o Other things that others touch without gloves

It should feel safe for others to touch these surfaces without gloves, and then it doesn't help that you yourself know that you don't have anything dangerous on your gloves.

Remember good hand hygiene!

Take gloves off when touching areas that one rated clean.

Different types of gloves:

Different gloves protect against different chemicals. Therefore, make sure you use the right type of gloves for the right type of chemical!

Different gloves have varying penetration times. Remember to change gloves well before this time is up!

Don't spread chemicals around by touching things with contaminated gloves!
