On Tuesday, March 17, we will announce the winners of the Holberg Prize and the Nils Klim Prize 2026 in the University Auditorium in Bergen.

During the event, the rector of the University of Bergen, Margareth Hagen, will welcome the participants, before the Holberg Prize's chairman, Jørgen Sejersted, announces this year's prize winners.
During the ceremony, we will also hear the scientific committees' justifications. Finally, experts for the respective prizes will present the prize winners and their research, in conversation with the Holberg Prize's scientific director, Bjørn Enge Bertelsen.
There will be music and light refreshments.

About the prices
Holbergprisen is awarded annually to a researcher who has distinguished himself through outstanding research in the humanities, social sciences, law or theology, either within one of these fields or through interdisciplinary work. The winner must have had a decisive influence on international research, for example through the development of theory and method. The prize has a monetary value of 6 million Norwegian kroner.
Nils Klim-prisen is awarded annually to a researcher under the age of 40, who has distinguished himself through outstanding research contributions within the humanities, social sciences, law or theology. Eligible candidates must be Nordic citizens or have a primary affiliation with a Nordic research institution. Emphasis is placed on whether the relevant contributions are particularly innovative or promising, assessed on the basis of the researcher's age, the nature of the research and the traditions in the field. The Nils Klim Prize has a value of 500,000 Norwegian kroner.
