Every day, patients at Norwegian hospitals need blood. Yet too few donate. Now the Blood Bank at Haukeland is encouraging everyone who can to register as a blood donor.
– The need for blood never takes a break. A single blood donor can help save up to three lives, says the Blood Bank.
Why give blood?
- Blood cannot be made artificially – it must come from humans.
- The donation usually takes less than an hour.
- You get a health check every time you donate.
- It is completely safe, and the body quickly replenishes its blood supply.
Who can become a blood donor?
Most healthy people between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood. The first step is to register and complete a simple health screening. The blood bank will then assess whether you can be approved as a donor.
How to register
You can register as a blood donor at giBlod.no, or contact the Blood Bank at Haukeland directly to make an appointment. New donors are especially welcome.
– We are completely dependent on people coming forward. Blood donors are everyday heroes, says the Blood Bank.
