Imagine a blood test that could function like the dashboard of a car, alerting you before cancer develops. Researchers in Bergen are now using quantum physics and diamonds to make this happen. “When you drive a car, warning lights on the dashboard tell you if something is wrong. Our own bodies don’t have anything like such a dashboard. Fever or pain can mean many things. We don’t have a good way of knowing if cancer is developing at a very early stage. We want to put these missing indicators in place,” says physicist Justas Zalieckas at the University of Bergen.
