Researchers have seen a connection between going through menopause before the age of forty and the amount of PFAS environmental toxins in the blood.
When the ovaries run out of eggs, or for other reasons stop working, women go through menopause. This usually happens in their early 50s, but for some it happens earlier, sometimes as early as their teens. Menopause before the age of 40 is called “premature menopause”:
– About three to four percent of women experience premature menopause, and that is a higher proportion than was thought just a few years ago, says an endocrinologist (a doctor specializing in hormonal disorders).
