Teknikerne på K2 og den kompetanse og kunnskap de representer, er en stor resurs for instituttet. Totalt er det 46 teknikere ansatt på grunnbevilgningen ved K2. I tillegg kommer alle teknikerne som er eksternt lønnet ved instituttet. Teknikerne på grunnbevilgningen er fordelt på forskningsgruppene etter en bestemt formel basert på gruppens størrelse, forskningsproduksjon og siteringsindeks. Det er forskningsgruppeleder som er ansvarlig for disponeringen av teknikerne tilknyttet gruppen. Det innebærer at alle i gruppen skal ha lik tilgang på hjelp fra teknikerne. Ikke minst er det viktig at yngre forskere på vei opp, blir sett når teknikerresursene skal fordeles. Det bør ikke være slik at teknikerne er forbeholdt de etablerte professorene i gruppene. Endelig er det viktig at også teknikernes kompetanse og ønsker blir ivaretatt i denne fordelingen.
Tilslutt skal jeg minne om at K2 har satt av midler til kompetanseheving for teknikere. Det kan søkes om midler når som helst. Støtte fra instituttet forutsetter at forskningsgruppen bidrar med samme beløp det søkes om. I fjor ble ikke alle de avsatte midlene brukt.

In addition, there all the technicians who are externally salaried at the department. Technicians employed on basic funding are allocated across the research groups after a certain formula based on group size, research production and citation index. The research group leader is responsible for the disposition of the technicians associated with the group. This means that everyone in the group should have equal access to assistance from the technicians. It is particularly important that young researchers are included when the technical resources are allocated. It should not be the case that the technicians are reserved for the established professors in the groups. Finally, it is important that the technicians’ skills and wishes are taken into account in the allocation of resources.
Besides, I will remind you that K2 has set aside funds for competence building among technicians. It can be applied for funding at any time. Support from the department assumes that the research group contributes with the same amount as it is applied for. Last year, not all the deposited funds were spent.
