Horizon 2020 Spotlight: Other Initiatives<\/b><\/p>\n
The Europe 2020 strategy <\/i>is about delivering growth<\/i> that is: SMART<\/b>, through more effective investments in education, research and innovation; sustainable<\/b>, thanks to a decisive move towards a low-carbon economy; and inclusive<\/b>, with a strong emphasis on job creation and poverty reduction. Europe has identified new engines to boost growth and jobs. These areas are addressed by 7 flagship initiatives<\/i>. One of those, the Innovation Union<\/b>, is supposed to boost SMART<\/b> growth in Europe by refocusing R&D and innovation policy<\/i> on major challenges for our society like climate change, energy and resource efficiency, health and demographic change, and strengthening every link in the innovation chain, from ‘blue sky’ research to commercialisation.<\/p>\n
The Horizon 2020 <\/b>program is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union; and there are many complementary\/overlapping activities<\/i> to join national, regional and local forces from different Member States. Thereby, the EU participates in the joint implementation of (parts of) research and development of national programmes.
