I anledning utdelingen av Jacob\u00e6us-prisen for 2021 vil det bli avholdt et symposium i Bergen p\u00e5 Opus XVI torsdag 21.april med deltakelse av flere fremst\u00e5ende internasjonale endokrinologer. Seminaret er gratis og \u00e5pent for alle og det vil ogs\u00e5 livestreames.<\/p>\n

Jacob\u00e6us-prisen for tildeles professor Stafford Lightman ved Universitetet i Bristol. Han har gjort store fremskritt for v\u00e5r forst\u00e5else av den hypothalamiske-hypofys\u00e6re-adrenocortikale (HPA) akse, ett av de hormonelle hovedsystemene for stressmestring. Lightman viste at den velkjente kortisol-d\u00f8gnrytmen bestod av kortere pulser som er utsatt for p\u00e5virkning fra eksterne faktorer. Stafford var ogs\u00e5 en pioneer i utviklingen av metoder for \u00e5 overv\u00e5ke disse pulsene i mennesker ved kontinuerlig pr\u00f8vetaking av vevsv\u00e6ske, en teknikk som n\u00e5 brukes i klinikken.<\/p>\n

Jacob\u00e6us-prisen er den eldste prisen som deles ut av NovoNordisk foreningen. Den ble etablert i 1939 til \u00e6re for den svenske professoren Hans Christian Jacob\u00e6us. M\u00e5let med prisen er \u00e5 fremheve medisinsk forsking og den utdeles \u00e5rlig til en fremst\u00e5ende internasjonell forsker som inviteres til \u00e5 holde ett foredrag om hans eller hennes fagfelt innenfor fysiologi eller endokrinologi. Prisen er p\u00e5 1,5 millioner DKK.<\/p>\n

The Jacob\u00e6us award for 2021 will be awarded at a symposium in Bergen at Opus XVI on Thursday 21st<\/sup> April. The symposium is open for everyone and free. It will also be live streamed.<\/p>\n

The recipient of the Jacob\u00e6us prize for 2021 is professor Stafford Lightman from the University of Bristol. Stafford Lightman has made fundamental advances \u2013 at both conceptual and practical levels \u2013 to our understanding of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, a key hormonal system to tackle stress. Lightman showed that the well-know circadian cortisol rhythm was made up of hourly pulses subject to alteration by a number of external factors. Stafford also pioneered the development of methods to capture these rhythms in humans by ambulatory sampling of tissue fluid, techniques that are now used in the clinic.<\/p>\n

The Jacob\u00e6us Prize is the oldest prize of the Novo Nordisk Foundation. It was established in 1939 to commemorate the Swedish professor Hans Christian Jacob\u00e6us. The purpose of the Prize is to promote medical research and is awarded annually to a distinguished international researcher, who is invited to give a lecture on his or her research on a topic within physiology or endocrinology. The accompanying award of DKK 1,500,000 (\u20ac200,000) is distributed as a personal award of DKK 250,000 and an award for research or development work of DKK 1,250,000.<\/p>\n
