Denne nye oppdagelsen gir nye muligheter for \u00e5 avsl\u00f8re biologiske mekanismer som kan for\u00e5rsake diabetes, s\u00e5 vel som autoimmun sykdom, metabolske tilstander eller kreft.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Virus som er kjent for \u00e5 infisere fisk og amfibier, kan muligens utsette mennesker for virale insuliner. Prof. Kahn og hans kollegaer p\u00e5 Joslin har funnet ut at forskjellige virus kan produsere peptider som ligner helt eller delvis p\u00e5 16 humane hormoner og regulatoriske proteiner. Fire virus har interessant nok insulinlignende sekvenser, og viser evne til \u00e5 binde seg til og stimulere humane insulinreseptorer og reseptorer for et n\u00e6rt beslektet hormon som kalles IGF-1 (insulinliknende vekstfaktor 1). This novel discovery brings new possibilities for revealing biological mechanisms that may cause diabetes, as well as autoimmune disease, metabolic conditions or cancer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Viruses known to infect fish and amphibians, could possibly expose humans to viral insulins. Prof. Kahn and his colleagues at Joslin have found that various viruses can produce peptides that are similar in whole or in part to 16 human hormones and regulatory proteins. Four viruses interestingly have insulin-like sequences, and show ability to bind to and stimulate human insulin receptors and receptors for a closely related hormone called IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1).
