Influenza vaccination is the best method of<\/p>\n preventing influenza morbidity and mortality. In Europe a new nasal<\/p>\n spray vaccine with high efficacy has recently been licensed for children<\/p>\n and we are currently conducting pediatric clinical trials to investigate<\/p>\n the mechanism of protection. Occasionally, a novel influenza virus<\/p>\n arises and can cause a pandemic such as the 2009 swine flu. Ideally, an<\/p>\n influenza vaccine should provide long lasting broad \u201cuniversal\u201d<\/p>\n protection against both epidemic and pandemic influenza.
