Tzoulis is an internationally recognized expert in movement disorders and neurodegeneration, and leads both the Neuro-SysMed, DECODE-PD research group and the KG Jebsen Center for Translational Research in Parkinson's Disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theme<\/strong> <em>Is there a mitochondrial subtype of Parkinson\u2019s disease?<\/em> Professor Tzoulis will present new research showing that mitochondrial dysfunction is not a universal feature of Parkinson's disease, but may define a distinct biological subtype. Around 20 percent of patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease show widespread complex I dysfunction, increased mtDNA deletions, and a non-tremor dominant phenotype. He will also share findings pointing to two distinct mechanisms of complex I dysfunction: an mtDNA-dependent and an mtDNA-independent pathway, suggesting molecular heterogeneity at the cellular level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Time and place:<\/strong> Wednesday 10 December 2025, at 11:30\u201313:00 Auditorium, Armauer Hansens Hus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be an informal networking lunch before the talk (11:30\u201312:00).
