Support in career choices and applications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the recommendations to K2 following the Research Council's evaluation in 2024, the committee writes the following \u201cThe committee recommends developing a leadership programme in which junior and senior staff jointly take on leadership of different organisational tasks<\/em>\u201d. This is advice we should try to follow up on over the coming year. In this context, it is relevant to recall what career support already exists for PhD candidates and early career researchers at our faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UiB <\/strong>Ferd Career Center for Young Researchers<\/strong><\/a>offers a range of services to support career development both within and outside the university. The centre targets PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows, researchers and associate professors at UiB. Ferd organises courses and events for researcher development and career learning<\/a>, and also offers individual conversations with professional career advisors<\/a>. Examples of offers include externships<\/a> with job shadowing in the private or public sector. Ferd also offers e-courses that can be taken at your convenience, such as: FERD100: Creating an Academic CV<\/em><\/a> and Navigating the Funding Landscape<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The postdoctoral program<\/strong><\/a>ved Det medisinske fakultet har som m\u00e5l \u00e5 st\u00f8tte postdoktorer i \u00e5 utvikle en vellykket akademisk karriere, bygge et fellesskap blant forskere i tidlig karrierefase, og gj\u00f8re fakultetet til et attraktivt arbeidssted for postdoktorer. Programmet starter en ny runde hvert andre \u00e5r. Det er rettet mot dem som er i \u201cpostdoktor\u201d- eller \u201cforsker\u201d-stillinger med tilknytning til en forskningsgruppe ved Det medisinske fakultet. Neste runde starter i september 2026, med plass til 20 deltakere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research and Innovation Department (FIA)<\/strong> at UiB is developing an offer for application reading sessions<\/a>, including ERC, MSCA and collaborative projects in Horizon Europe. This can provide good insight into how such applications can be designed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UiB also has the more competitive The Momentum program<\/strong><\/a>, which supports the career development of selected early-career researchers. The application deadline for the 2025\/26 round was in March this year. In addition to a series of seminars, each participant receives a grant of NOK 100,000 for mentoring, travel, networking, research stays, conferences and other career-enhancing activities. Marta Kaminska<\/a> from K2 are participating in the current period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program starts a new round every two years. It is aimed at those who are in \u201cpostdoctoral\u201d or \u201cresearcher\u201d positions with an affiliation to a research group at the Faculty of Medicine. The next round will start in September 2026, with space for 20 participants.<\/p>\n
