{"id":24175,"date":"2024-11-07T12:16:47","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T11:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/k2info.w.uib.no\/?p=24175"},"modified":"2024-11-07T12:16:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T11:16:47","slug":"holbergdebatten-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/k2info.w.uib.no\/en\/2024\/11\/07\/holbergdebatten-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"[:no]Holbergdebatten 2024[:en] The 2024 Holberg Debate[:]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[:no]<a href=\"https:\/\/holbergprisen.no\/\">Holbergprisen<\/a> inviterer alle til \u00e5 v\u00e6re til stede under Holbergdebatten 2024, som finner sted i Universitetsaulaen s\u00f8ndag 15. desember kl. 14:00 \u2013 16:45.<\/p>\n<p>Debatten har f\u00e5tt tittelen: &laquo;Is the West in Decline?&raquo;<\/p>\n<p>Panelet skal dr\u00f8fte om Vesten er i forfall, og hva det i s\u00e5 fall betyr for demokratiet og for global stabilitet.<\/p>\n<p>I panelet har vi:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cynthia Miller-Idriss<\/strong>, som er en amerikansk professor i sosiologi ved American University, Washington, D.C., og prisvinnende forfatter, som forsker p\u00e5 ekstremisme, radikalisering, rasisme og anti-feminisme. Miller-Idriss\u2019 er blant annet kjent for boken <em>Hate in the Homeland: The New Global Far Right<\/em> (2020). Hun er ofte ekspertvitne i den amerikanske Kongressen, og hun gir r\u00e5d til b\u00e5de FN og myndigheter i ulike land n\u00e5r det gjelder trender innenfor innenlandsk voldelig ekstremisme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yanis Varoufakis, <\/strong>som er en gresk \u00f8konom og politiker. Han er professor i \u00f8konomi ved University of Athens og leder av det venstreorienterte partiet MeRA25. Varoufakis har tidligere v\u00e6rt medlem av det greske parlamentet, og som finansminister 2015 ledet han forhandlingene med Hellas\u2019 kreditorer under gjeldskrisen. Varoufakis\u2019 seneste bok er <em>Technofeudalism: What killed capitalism<\/em> (2023).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Konstantin Kisin, <\/strong>som er satiriker, samfunnskommentator og vert for YouTube-programmet TRIGGERnometry, som tar opp kontroversielle sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5l og intervjuer profilerte samfunnsakt\u00f8rer og forskere. Kisin utvandret fra Russland til Storbritannina som elleve\u00e5ring. I boken <em>An Immigrant\u2019s Love Letter to the West<\/em> (2022) dr\u00f8fter han temaer som toleranse, ytringsfrihet, kanselleringskultur, immigrasjon og multikulturalisme, samt hvilke muligheter og verdier Vesten representerer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Debatten modereres av <strong>Sarah Montague<\/strong>, som en britisk journalist og programleder. The panel will discuss how the political, economic and social problems facing the West will impact the future of democracy, as well as global stability.<\/p>\n<p>In the panel:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cynthia Miller-Idriss<\/strong> is a Professor in the School of Public Affairs and in the School of Education at the American University in Washington, DC, where she is also the founding director of the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab (PERIL). Dr. Miller-Idriss regularly testifies before the U.S. Congress and briefs policy, security, education and intelligence agencies in the U.S., the United Nations, and other countries on trends in domestic violent extremism and strategies for prevention and disengagement. She is the author, co-author, or co-editor of seven books, including <em>Hate in the Homeland: The New Global Far Right<\/em> (Princeton University Press, 2022). Her next book is focused on how misogyny fuels mass violence and will be published by Princeton University Press in 2025.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yanis Varoufakis<\/strong> is professor of economics at the University of Athens. He leads MeRA25 in Greece and is co-founder of the pan-European movement DiEM25 as well as the Progressive International. An academic economist who served as Greece\u2019s Finance Minister in 2015, Varoufakis is the author of several best-selling books including <em>Technofeudalism: What killed capitalism<\/em> (Penguin 2023), <em>Another Now<\/em> (Penguin 2020), <em>Adults in the Room<\/em> (Penguin 2017), <em>Talking to my Daughter<\/em> (Penguin 2017), <em>And the Week Suffer What They Must?<\/em> (Penguin 2016), and <em>The Globlal Minotaur<\/em> (Zed Books 2011).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Konstantin Kisin<\/strong> is an author, comedian, satirist, social commentator and host of TRIGGERnometry, which is branded as a free speech YouTube show and podcast, based on open, fact-based discussion of important and controversial issues. In his book An <em>Immigrant\u2019s Love Letter to the West<\/em> (2022), as well as in his speeches and podcasts, Kisin discusses topics such as tolerance, freedom of speech, cancel culture, immigration and multiculturalism, as well as what opportunities and values the West represents. He has also spoken and written extensively about the war in Ukraine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event will be moderated by <strong>Sarah Montague<\/strong>, who is a British journalist and presenter.
