[:no]\"\"<\/a>Forrige uke hadde instituttet et dialogm\u00f8te med Det medisinske fakultet om forskerutdanningen ved instituttet. Det viser seg at det er et mindretall av stipendiater som fullf\u00f8rer doktorgraden innen 4 \u00e5r (36%), mens litt over halvparten fullf\u00f8rer innen 6 \u00e5r (55%). K2 ligger dermed under gjennomsnittet p\u00e5 fakultetet, som ligger p\u00e5 65% (Kunnskapsdepartementet sitt m\u00e5ltallet ligger forresten p\u00e5 80%). N\u00e5 kan man si mye om \u00e5rsakene eller om hva som er viktigst, \u00e5 gjennomf\u00f8re innen en gitt tidsfrist eller \u00e5 levere et arbeid av bra kvalitet. Men allikevel ser vi at det er noen stipendiater som sliter med \u00e5 bli ferdig.<\/p>\n

Det er alltid vanskelig \u00e5 forutse resultater av eksperimenter eller kliniske studier, men det g\u00e5r nok an \u00e5 gj\u00f8re livet mot slutten av en doktorgrad betydelig mindre stressende hvis man begynner \u00e5 planlegge obligatoriske kurs og formidlingspoeng i god tid. MEDMET1 (Grunnkurs i medisinsk og helsefaglig forskning) er for eksempel et av kursene som er obligatorisk for alle stipendiater ved Det medisinske fakultet, og det burde tas helt i begynnelsen av doktorgradsarbeidet for \u00e5 ha noen nytte. For de som ikke kjenner til MEDMET1, s\u00e5 er form\u00e5let med kurset \u00e5 gi en oversikt over de ulike stadiene i forskningsprosessen inklusive formulering av problemstilling, innsamling av data, analysemetoder, skriftlig og muntlig presentasjon av forskningsdata samt forskningsetikk. Kurset g\u00e5r for \u00f8vrig hvert semester. K2 tilbyr ellers 8 forskjellige forskerkurs<\/a>\u00a0i regi av de to forskerskolene p\u00e5 K2 (Forskerskole i Klinisk Medisin<\/a>\u00a0og\u00a0Bergen Research School in Inflammation<\/a>). Ogs\u00e5 midtveisevaluering er obligatorisk og kan v\u00e6re en god kontrollinstans om man er i rute med prosjektet, og dessuten en mulighet for \u00e5 be om hjelp. Og husk at man kan alltid henvende seg til Irene Hjelm\u00e5s<\/a>\u00a0eller meg om det skulle v\u00e6re noe en trenger hjelp med.<\/p>\n

Siste frist for \u00e5 levere inn avhandlingen f\u00f8r sommeren er satt til 21.6., etter det kan instituttet ikke garantere at alle som skal signere noe er p\u00e5 plass.<\/p>\n

Til sist skal jeg bare nevne at det blir et K2 PhD retreat ogs\u00e5 i \u00e5r som jeg anbefaler p\u00e5 det sterkeste for felleskapet og ikke minst for f\u00f8lelsen om \u00e5 ikke st\u00e5 i alt alene, s\u00e5 f\u00f8lg med for mer informasjon!<\/p>\n

Jeg \u00f8nsker alle en fin 17.mai![:en]\"\"<\/a>Last week, the Institute had a dialogue meeting with the medical faculty about the research education at the institute. It turns out that there is a minority of fellows who complete their doctorate within 4 years (36%), while a little more than half complete within 6 years (55%). K2 is thus below the average at the medical faculty, which is 65% (by the way, the target number of the Ministry of Education and Research is 80%). No one can say a lot about the reasons or what is more important, to finish the thesis within a given time frame or to deliver a work of good quality. But we do see that there are some fellows who struggle to finish their PhD.<\/p>\n

It is always difficult to predict the results of experiments or clinical trials, but it is possible to make life at the end of the PhD period considerably less stressful if you start planning mandatory courses and dissemination points well in time. For example, MEDMET1 (Basic Course in Medical and Health Related Research) is one of the courses that is compulsory for all PhD fellows at the Faculty of Medicine, and it should be taken at the very beginning of the doctoral thesis to have some benefit. For those unfamiliar with MEDMET1, the purpose of the course is to provide an overview of the various stages of the research process including formulating a research question to be addressed, data collection, analysis methods, written and oral presentation of research data as well as research ethics. The course is given every semester. K2 also offers 8 different researcher courses<\/a> under the umbrella of the two research schools at K2 (Research School in Clinical Medicine<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Bergen Research School in Inflammation<\/a>). Also the mid-term evaluation is compulsory and can be a good control checkpoint if one is on track with the project, and a possibility to ask for help. And remember that one can always contact Irene Hjelm\u00e5s<\/a> or me if there is anything one needs help with.<\/p>\n

Last deadline for submitting your thesis before summer is set to 21.6., after that, the institute cannot guarantee that everyone who needs to sign anything is in place.<\/p>\n

Lastly, I just want to mention that there will be a K2 PhD retreat also this year which I strongly recommend to participate in, not only to get to know your fellow PhD candidates, but not least for the feeling of not standing in everything alone, so stay tuned for more information!<\/p>\n
